Soi Swan Safaris

Samburu National Reserve

Why Visit:

Samburu is a hidden gem in northern Kenya, offering a rugged, less-crowded safari experience. It is home to unique wildlife not found in southern parks, famously called the “Samburu Special Five” – the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and beisa oryx. The Ewaso Nyiro River, lifeline of the reserve, attracts elephants, lions, and leopards, making it a wildlife haven.

What to Expect:

  • A more exclusive safari experience with fewer visitors, dramatic arid landscapes, and opportunities to see rare species. Samburu’s luxury lodges are intimate and often blend seamlessly into the wilderness.

Best Time to Visit:

June to October and December to March, when the dry conditions bring wildlife closer to the river.
