Nyungwe Forest National Park

Why Visit:

Nyungwe is one of Africa’s oldest rainforests and an absolute paradise for biodiversity lovers. Known for its vast canopy, the park is home to chimpanzees, 12 other primate species, and over 300 bird species. Nyungwe’s rainforest is also famous for its canopy walk—the first of its kind in East Africa—which gives travelers the exhilarating experience of walking high above the treetops. For nature enthusiasts, this is one of the most magical places in Rwanda, offering both adventure and tranquility.

What to Expect:

  • Primate tracking (chimpanzees and colobus monkeys), birdwatching, waterfalls, and the thrilling canopy walkway—all surrounded by lush rainforest scenery. Luxury lodges provide a perfect sanctuary after a day of exploration.

Best Time to Visit:

The dry season (June to September) offers the most comfortable trekking conditions, though Nyungwe is a year-round destination due to its evergreen nature.
